From 1952-1957 versions of the state flag (...) had been used as car flags for state authorities. In 1957 a new design for the car flags was introduced. The flags show on a red field with (outer) blue and (inner) white border a golden eagle with the arms.
These were described and also depicted in the Verordnung zur Durchführung des Gesetzes über die Hoheitszeichen des Landes Schleswig-Holstein (Regulation for the Implementation of the Law on State Symbols of the Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein) of 10th August 1957, published in the Gesetz- und Verordnungsblatt für Schleswig-Holstein (Schleswig-Holstein Acts and Regulations Bulletin) 1957, pp. 105-108. [Attached to the text in the regulation are sketches of the flags.]
The car flags are officially called Standarte in the regulation. The flags for the Ministerpräsident and the Minister (i.e. the square ones) can also be used as Kommandoflagge (command flag) on ships in official service, when the respective minister/prime minister is aboard.
